Beset by misfortune, the distillery was opened then closed time and again; finally taking its last breath in 1998. Once closed, thieves smashed its stills and stole the copper. But luckily, a treasure of gilded barrels was left behind. While maturing, the whisky developed a surprising and distinctive character of orchard fruits and honey malt.
