Ragged Branch is nestled in the foothills of the Ragged Mountains near Charlottesville, Virginia.
As a farm-to-bottle distillery, we grow, harvest, and mill grain to produce our spirit on site, and feed the residual, ash to our cattle. We honor our late Master Distiller, Dave Pickerell, by utilizing the recipes and distilling methods he taught us.
For our first special barrel release of 2022, we decided to take a freshly harvested whiskey barrel and fill it with New England Maple Syrup. We let the maple syrup slowly infuse into the barrel for most of the summer of 2021. In the fall, we harvested the maple syrup from the barrel and filled it with our Wheated Bourbon. For the rest of the year, we let the Wheated Bourbon slowly pick up subtle flavor and sweetness from the maple syrup barrel. We left our Maple Barre; Finished at barrel proof, so that you can experience the full effect the maple syrup had on the barrel.
